Mountain Biking from Saughs Farm
Saughs Farm may have a stronger appeal to horse riders with on-site accommodation for horses, and a variety of horse riding clinics throughout the year, but mountain bikers and walkers shouldn’t overlook the traditional holiday cottages offering self catering accommodation at Saughs Farm. Skylark Cottages at Saughs Farm are only a short distance from Newcastleton where mountain bikers can enjoy one of the 7stanes rides through scenic forest roads and tracks.
What are the 7stanes?
The 7stanes are seven mountain biking centres spanning the south of Scotland, from the heart of the Scottish Borders to Dumfries and Galloway. ‘Stane’ is the Scots word for stone, and at each of the 7stanes locations, you’ll find a stone sculpture reflecting a local myth or legend.
The stanes are found out on the trails in the forests, in prominent locations near cycling and walking paths. They’re accessible on foot or by horse as well as by bike, and range in size from one to three metres high and from two to six tons in weight.
The 7stanes offers some of the best mountain biking in the UK across 7 separate sites throughout Southern Scotland. The trails at Newcastleton are suitable for all riding abilities and being slightly shorter than routes at the other 7stanes locations, are great introduction to mountain biking in this area.
